Approaches to Teaching Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina

Written by and for educators, this resource offers teaching strategies for presenting Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina in the undergraduate classroom. The first two chapters deal with materials, evaluating various English translations and Russian editions of the novel and recommending works in the critical literature. In the second section, 22 teachers reflect on their experiences teaching the novel, discussing such topics as Tolstoy’s anti-philosophical philosophy, the moral education of the reader, and film renditions of the novel.
