As an investigator for the Oregon Nursing Board, the author found 10% of all nurses were addicted to drugs, most in the top ten percent of the profession. This book is written accounts of real-life cases. It explains what causes nurses to reach for drugs and how to stop them. This book is written as a teaching handbook to educate nurses of the problem and the dos and don’ts of spotting and handling it. If every nurse were to read this account on drug abuse, every year abuses would drop by 60%. Nursing schools have little time to address this problem. This book does it for them. Three states have given continuing education hours for lectures by the author, along with boards of pharmacy also in those states. Early detections find the habit is less, and there is less healing with returning to the job sooner. This honorable profession deserves attention to this problem.
