From the Clyde to California: Robert Louis Stevenson’s Emigrant Journey

Robert Louis Stevenson sailed from the Clyde bound for New York on the Anchor Line’s Devonia on 7 August 1879. Family and friends were appalled by this impulsive and potentially dangerous step. RLS was to provide dramatic accounts of his journeys, accounts which so distressed his father and some of his friends that they were not all published in his lifetime. In this book Dr. Noble has drawn on a wide range of sources, American and British, for the illustrations.
