Thorn creates a textual dialogue among three individuals — Menchu, Bakhtin, and Montejo — that shows that their life-texts and ideas are similar in many ways. The most important similarity is a reassessment of social and cultural history through which people, physically and historically oppressed, can constitute for themselves an ethical agency that allows them to belong to themselves while remaining interactive in the world.
