A matter of trust

[This book is a story about] Cory, an angry teenager living with her mother, a single parent, [who] loses all trust in people [after] her father, having promised never to leave her, abandons Cory when he divorces Cory’s mother, Margaret. Unable to make friends at school, and feeling very lost and alone, Cory turns to … shoplifting, deliberately hoping to get caught. Her plan works, and Cory is sent to a juvenile correction center. While at the correction center Cory comes to realize that other teenagers have led lives filled with abuse and neglect. Through her new friendships with these troubled young people, and through her experiences in a wilderness survival course, Cory begins to change.
