A Note From One Of The Authors There is no one reason to attend Alfred University. Students are drawn to this place for any variety of reasons, from the atmosphere to the course offerings. A friend who had followed her partner to Alfred simply stated, “I was in love.” However, one thing is certain, no matter how you find yourself at Alfred, you’ll also find more reasons to stay.

At Alfred University, students receive an excellent education for a fraction of what they might pay at other institutions. Few other schools can offer such a personalized education at such a high caliber for so little. Only a PhD or its equivalent will get you into the faculty lounge and teachers are actively involved in student life. Also, internationally-renowned programs in ceramic engineering and the fine arts, paired with impressive facilities, make for a hands-on experience that is unparalleled. Combined with a generous financial aid package and a graduate placement rate of over 90 percent, it almost seems too good to be true.

Aside from the academic opportunities, the Alfred community is friendly and tightly-knit. Students can’t help but form strong bonds over the unique experience of living, sleeping, and eating together in the middle of this winter wonderland. It’s a great opportunity for over 2,000 students to become acquainted simultaneously and form friendships that will last a lifetime—just think, instant networking. Many graduates say the social environment at Alfred was a nurturing one in which they could define themselves. If someday you want to go where everybody knows your name, consider a campus visit.

Personally, Alfred won me over in the eleventh hour. I didn’t realize how much I’d gained from my time there until I graduated with a great support network, two major internships, and most importantly, minimal student loans. I have to look back now and admit that, despite numerous threats to transfer, I never had incentive to leave.
