Art of the Solomon Islands from the collection of the Barbier-Müller Museum

Dr. Deborah Waite is Associate Professor of art history at the University of Hawaii. At Columbia University, she had her first encounter with the arts of Africa, the Pacific, tribal Indonesia, and Canadian and American Indian art. From 1968 to 1970 she was the curator of Ethnology at the Newark Museum in Newark, New Jersey and went on to teach Pacific Art History as well as several courses in African art and Primitive art at the University of Hawaii. She has received three research grants from the University of Hawaii for research in the Pacific and Great Britain.
