Artes (1998): An International Reader of Literature, Art, and Music

Mercury House is pleased to present the 1998 edition of Artes, which celebrates Stockholm as “cultural capital of Europe ’98.” Artes is the international annual sponsored by the Swedish Academy, the Academy of Pine Arts, the Academy of Music, and the Society of Nine in Stock, holm, featuring the 1997 Nobel Lecture in Literature by Dario Fo and contributions from Margaret Atwood on failure and the problems of writing fiction, Michael Holroyd (“Smoke with Fire”) on the ethics of biography, Christopher Barnes on Boris Pasternak, and Natayla Ivanova (a leading literary critic of Russia) on Russian prose, among others.Artes 1998 also includes a compact disc of Swedish composers throughout the centuries.
