China’s Economic Evolution

In 1992, China’s GNP growth was more than 12 per cent. Recently, the IMF announced that China’s aggregate production has become the third worldwide, just behind that of the superpowersthe US and Japan.
During the last decade, more than 84,000 foreign enterprises have invested in China. At the same time, with its 1,170 billion inhabitants and an annual population increase of 15 million, China is the most crowded country in the world. A large majority of its population is still active in agriculture.
China insists that it is still a developing country and that it is attempting to develop its productive forces by introducing a “socialist market economy”.
