Researchers from the US Food and Drug Administration describe how testing drugs that have been derived from biotechnology differs from testing conventional drugs. They begin by setting out the fundamentals in such areas as pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, analytical methods, allometric scaling, and non-clinical aspects of therapeutic proteins. Then they describe biologic products used in oncology, homeostasis, arthritis, and rheumatism; such types of products as monoclonal antibodies and therapeutic enzymes.
