Critics of the 20th-century Polish poet have been mainly concerned with his lyrics and essays. By contrast, Kraszewski (comparative literature, King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania) concentrates on the dramatic dimensions of his writing, not only his five plays, but also other works that have been adapted for the stage, and the dramatic element in his writing as a whole.
