Lucy Mannings,

comes of age amid the bullets of Kent
State and the Vietnam
slaughter — angry protests of a nation tearing itself apart. Taught by her
father to see war as nothing more than a waste of life, and watching young widows
sobbingly accept their lots, Lucy, unwed at forty, rationalizes that Vietnam
took her ‘soulmate’ and her chance of marriage gone.

In Ireland,
Patrick Murray, an IRA sniper since childhood, is ordered to execute a
prisoner. It is killing so close to his victim that awakens Patrick to the grim
reality behind his actions. He deserts the IRA, illegally enters the United
