Heartbeat of Yorkshire

The real-life Yorkshire of PC Rowan in the Yorkshire Television series called Heartbeat set on the North York Moors. PC Nick Roans rural beat at Aidensfield in the 1960s was set among the bleakest of countryside. He was soon to discover that the windswept landscape had a character of its own. In ancient times, the upland and remote regions of the North York Moors was called Blackamoor. It only became known as the North York Moors just before the turn of this century. In recent past, industry scarred the area with mining of iron ore, jet, alum and even coal. Today, there are few signs of that activity and the moors are peaceful. Its difficult to capture the true magic of the moors without going there yourself, but this beautiful book is the next best thing. Michael Stead’s photographs and Nicholas Rheas words are a fine introduction to the real Heartbeat country. This book links in with 1960s ‘Yorkshire’ nostalgia and stunningly illustrates the scenery of the countryside.
