Listen for the Rainbird

Friendship and affection, rivalry and pain, weave their disparate effects in this novel set in the 1940s against a backdrop of small town life and events. Carolyn, Edith and Margo meet as girls and their life-long friendships, filled with conflicts and devotions, finally pivot their individual characters into resolutions that are both surprising and inspiring. Over many years, the Rainbird–called a Raincrow by Indians in Oklahoma–and its mystical prediction of rain, becomes a talisman for Carolyn and Edith, but Margo never understands its meaning.
