Paule Marshall Reading From “Brown Girl, Brownstones” and “Praisesong for the Widow”

Except from the back of the cassette Paule Marshall was born in 1929 in Brooklyn where she grew up in a tight knit and hard working community of Barbadian immigrants. She has said that “perhaps the proper measure of a writers talent is his skill in rendering every — when it is appropriate to his story — as well as is ability to tap, to exploit, the beauty, poetry, and wisdom it contains.” This reading performance demonstrates Marshall’s unique blend of language and vision.
