Political Pressure And the Archival Record

The editors (all of the Liverpool U. Centre for Archive Studies, UK) present 20 papers selected from the July 2003 eponymous conference, in which contributors were invited to consider the use of records as a tool of government, the destruction of records as a political act, the effects of corruption or ideology on records, secrecy and accountability, the nature and use of records resulting from repressive politics, and related issues of the archival profession. The primary themes of the proceedings the historical legacy, access and the public interest, ethical dilemmas in the public service, political threats and responses, records and international conflict, and issues of future information technology.
