Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect Through Parent Education

Reports results of the authors’ study of five Virginia programs for parent education and family support for the purpose of preventing child abuse and neglect. The authors also present case studies of the creation of four successful parent education programs, as well as the outcome evaluation of a program for adolescent, low-income, urban, unmarried mothers and their infants. Topics of discussion include measurement tools for the self-evaluation of programs, and the distinctions between needs, process, and outcome evaluations.
