This monograph investigates the political dimension of Reinaldo Arenas’ writing. Straying from the usual approach to Arenas’ fiction, which is to see it as escapist fantasy that compensates for the harshness of an oppressive existence, this author questions the usual assumptions about this great Latin American writer and investigates Arenas’ political and social vision for the Caribbean as well as Latin America.
