This work of visionary fiction, featuring 12 full-color paintings and accompanying poem, is set on the coast of Maine. Young Billy King-Fraser is reported missing in the dead of winter, but returns 90 days later to a startled family, with an even more startling tale. He tells of falling through the ice and being taken to a castle where he see 12 paintings. As he looks at each painting, a person comes to explain the menaing of each painting. After 90 days, through some miracle of cryonics or hibernation or some such thing, Billy’s breath burst through the waver-thin ice and he returns home. The two lions are metaphors for fear and doubt. Billy learns how to control them, and at the same time develop unshakable self-confidence.
