The Boy Who Could Do Anything & Other Mexican Folktales

Here are twenty-four representative Mexican legends of Tepozton, the boy who could do anything; tales of everyday stories of magic, black and white; and old, old tales that have come down from Indian mythology before the Spanish conquest.
Anita Brenner was born and raised in Mexico and collected these stories from Luz, the best storyteller in the village of Milpa Alta. Jean Charlot, muralist and sculptor, was one of the leaders of the Mexican art movement of the mid-twentieth century. His expressive line drawings were the first authentic depictions of Mexican villagers, who, prior to this, had been seen – if at all – as Europeans.
