The Distance Between Life and Death

The story begins on a battlefield of World War I. David Jones confronts his first battle. David is seriously wounded, near death. This is when one of the most extraordinary experiences of his life unfolds. A mysterious man who seems to have supernatural powers appears to David. Perhaps the man is an angel; perhaps it’s only the product of David’s tortured mind spurred by the severity of his wounds. Nevertheless, the mysterious man helps David survive his calamity and instills a sense of destiny in him. During the years that followed, David believes that he was born to accomplish something great and unique in the world, but he does not know exactly what he must do. David becomes one of the richest men in the world, but total satisfaction eludes him. Then, a personal tragic event of devastating proportions propels David Jones into a spiritual quest where he undertakes a forty-day total fast. David’s excruciating ordeal results in a near-death experience. Finally, David learns the particulars of the great deed he was born to carry out.
