The New Dress: An Afghan American’s Journey Back to Afghanistan

“The New Dress” is a contemporary novel that tells the story of Jahan, a young Afghan-born American who visits Afghanistan during the Taliban regime. While Jahan’s original mission is a personal quest, he soon finds himself exposed to both the horrifying realities that the Afghan people face and their will to live in freedom. Jolted out of his heretofore complacent existence, Jahan responds quickly and sometimes recklessly to come to the aid of his former countrymen. While maintaining a fast-paced storyline, the novel explores the thoughts and reflections of a young man as he attempts to reconcile past and present experience with his own future.
