Salhi (French and Francophone studies, U. of Leeds) moves the topic of his narrative, Kateb Yacine, beyond the simple categories of French literary studies, exploring both his place as a major writer in the French language, and his context in the political and cultural world of Algeria. Salhi emphasizes that in all of Yacine’s work, whether in French, Algerian Arabic, or Berber, the main reiterated theme is that of the creation of the Algerian nation.
