This essay represents the first scholarly attempt at the application of sophisticated theoretical models to the case of the Iranian Revolution. Additionally, Moshiri offers a provocative and penetra- ting discussion of the role of charisma in the early stages of the Iranian Revultion. The Epilogue, relying on Crane Brinton and Charles Tillys’ theoretical models, offers an interesting and lucid analysis of the social revolution in Iran.
Not seeking to present yet another detailed historical account of the Iranian Revolution, nor proposing a purely theoretical analysis, Farrokh Moshiri incorporates elements of Political Science, History, Sociology, and Area Studies to present an interdisciplinary approach to the Iranian Revolution.
