Toni Cade Bambara, Interview With Kay Bonetti

Toni Cade Bambara grew up in New York City and was there exposed to larger social issues and the rich tradition of the Harlem Renaissance. In this interview, Bambara discusses her refusal to draw on her personal biography or that of her friends and family for fictional material. She talks about what she sees as her real work–that of social activist and community organizer, with her fiction being but one manifestation of that work.
